Sam Fender has given the full amount of his £25,000 award cash to the trust for venues, which functions to save the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

The star was given the prize on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was declared the top album of the past year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues had in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the area, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous local spots across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that helped artists and audiences.

"The concept that money from concerts in major spaces supports the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has commented.

He is not the first artist to give his honor funds to charitable organizations.

In Pulp won the prize in the mid-90s for their album the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the act would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite divided her prize across several charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they required better apparatus," she told the media.

In recent years, they gave their funds to the youth organization that supported their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients they contributed their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," said vocalist Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the honor. So our victory affected another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

The Joiners in that area and the second in the city were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
